Roots Ramble: "Pickin' & Stitchin'" Edition
Sat, Aug 9 17:30 - 00:00

It's time for a summer party! Join us for a celebration of music, making, and community mischief...
We’re bringing the band and the yarn back to the pubs for this year’s Roots Ramble – and it’s going to be our most joyful, creative, and slightly chaotic one yet. Welcome to the Pickin’ & Stitchin’ Edition — a mash-up of acoustic music, crafting, and good old-fashioned pub crawling.
We'll start at the Chester and from there? Well, you’ll have to follow the singing, the laughter, and maybe the odd crocheted guitar down the road…
π΅ What is the Roots Ramble?
It’s part gig, part parade: an acoustic crawl through local pubs where live Americana, folk, and country musicians pop up with spontaneous sets in each venue. Stomping, singing, and general pub revelry are highly encouraged. This year, we’re turning it into a community arts adventure - a celebration of keeping live music and live knitting alive in the local pubs we love.
We are also hoping for the night to end with a headliner gig at our final stop (TBC)!
πΈ The Event Is Free, But It Needs Our Knitted Magic
We want the Roots Ramble to remain free and open to all, but this year we are asking for a suggested donation (£5–10) from non-Knitwits to support our rambling musicians and a future Knitwits charity yarn supply fund.
People who give donations will receive one of our handmade crocheted wristbands, which also entitle the wearer to drinks discounts along the route. (Knitwits entitled to the wristbands for free - we're making them, of course!)
But to make this grassroots, strings-and-stitches celebration happen, we need your creativity behind the scenes. So here's what we need:
π§Ά Wristbands - Crochet slim bands (1–2 cm thick) that can be easily tied on wrists
πΊ Beer cosies - for sale on the night (£5 each)
πΈ Yarn "bombables" - crochet musical notes, mini guitars, keychains, etc. for decoration and en-route treasure hunt; let's make the path between pubs to look like a handmade festival, complete with treasures for ramblers to find and take home!
π Raffle support - either donating or helping bundle a prize/prizes (yarn shop voucher, booze, musical merch, etc.)
β€οΈ Why This Matters
This edition of the Roots Ramble is more than a pub crawl: it’s a homespun community arts night that champions local live music, handcrafts, and the brilliant venues that host them. It'll be a night where creativity spills into the streets and where knitting meets foot-stomping!
Join us, and feel free to knit (and sing) along the way...
